1.7.9. Launch of the engine by means of an auxiliary starting cable

If the accumulator was discharged, the engine can be started by means of auxiliary starting cables and the accumulator of other car.
At the same time it is necessary to observe extreme care. Any deviation from the provided instruction can lead to injuries or damages at explosion of rechargeable batteries and to damage of electric devices of both cars.
Avoid sparks and an open flame near the accumulator.
The discharged accumulator can freeze already at a temperature of 0 °C. Before connecting an auxiliary starting cable, it is necessary to defreeze the frozen accumulator in the warm room.
Do not allow hit of accumulator liquid in eyes, on skin, fabric and the varnished surfaces. Liquid contains sulfuric acid which at direct contact causes injuries and damages.
During the work with the accumulator put on goggles and clothes.
Use the auxiliary accumulator of constant tension (12 V). Its capacity (And · w) there should not be much less than the capacity of the discharged accumulator. Values of tension and capacity are specified on accumulators.
It is necessary to use an auxiliary starting cable with the isolated polar clips, with a section not less than 16 mm2, for diesel engines – 25 mm2.
Do not disconnect the discharged accumulator from onboard network.
Disconnect unnecessary consumers of current.
During all procedure do not bend over the accumulator.
Polar clips of one cable should not concern clips of another.
During auxiliary start-up cars have to be not mobile.
Tighten the parking brake. Switch the mechanical transmission and Easytronic to neutral situation, the automatic transmission – in situation P.
Connect cables in the sequence shown in the drawing:
1. Connect a cable to a positive pole of 1 auxiliary accumulator (the sign "plus" on the case of the accumulator or on the plug).
2. Connect other end of this cable to a positive pole 2 discharged the accumulator (sign "plus").
3. Connect the second cable to a negative pole 3 auxiliary accumulators (sign "minus").
4. Connect other end of the second cable 4 to the mass of other car – for example, connect to the block of the engine or to the threaded connection of an engine mount.
Do not connect a cable to a negative pole of the discharged accumulator.
The point of connection has to be as it is possible further from the discharged accumulator.
Lay cables so that they did not concern the rotating details of motor office.
Start the engine of the car from which current moves.
In 5 min. to start the engine of other car. Attempts of start-up should not last more than 15 with at an interval of 1 min.
After start of both engines let's them work about 3 min. idling, without disconnecting cables.
To avoid excess tension in electric system, before disconnection of cables from plugs it is necessary to include any consumer of the electric power (for example, light, heating of back glass) on the car consuming current.
To make removal of cables upside-down.
